Fire Prevention Checklist for Your Farm

Preventing harmful situations on the farm is critical, but can often be overlooked until it’s too late. Fire prevention is no exception.

Preventing a fire on the farm is the first line of defense for not only the protection of children on the farm, but for everyone on the farm.

The National Farm Medicine Center at Marshfield Clinic created a checklist to help you identify and prevent fire hazards on the farm:

  • Make sure flammables are stored in approved containers and cabinets.
  • Protect fuel tanks with barriers.
  • Keep all bulk fuel tank stations outdoors.
  • Post NO SMOKING signs throughout the farm, and ensure it’s enforced.
  • When dispensing flammable liquids from containers, be sure the containers are grounded.
  • Recycle or dispose of waste oil on a regular basis.
