Since 1934, Rural Mutual Insurance Company (“Rural”, “we”, or “our”) has provided exceptional insurance products and services to Wisconsin residents. Keeping your personal information confidential is a top priority for us.

Here’s how we define some of the terms used in this notification:
Nonpublic Personal Financial Information (“Personal Information”) means information about you that we collect in connection with providing insurance products or services to you. Such Personal Information does not include information that is available from public sources like telephone directories or government records, nor does it include personal medical information.
Affiliates means companies related to Rural. Our Affiliates are the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation Cooperative and Statewide Services, Inc..
Non-Affiliated Third Party means a company that is not an Affiliate of ours but with whom we may have a contract, a special arrangement, or joint marketing agreement.
Customer means individuals who use our products and services.
Personal Information We Collect to Conduct Our Business
We may collect Personal Information about you from the following sources:
- Information we receive from you on applications or other forms, or in response to oral requests for information from you, including identifying information such as name, address, driver’s license number, and/or social security number.
- Information about your transactions with us, our Affiliates, and others, such as policies purchased and premium payment history.
- Information from Consumer Reporting Agencies, such as your credit rating and credit history.
- Information we receive in the process of handling or settling any claims in which you may be involved (such as medical records and reports).
- Information about your driving record (such as traffic citations).

We do not disclose Personal Information about current or former Customers to Affiliated or Non-Affiliated Third Parties, except as permitted by law.
We do not sell the Personal Information we obtain under any circumstances.
Confidentiality
We restrict access to Personal Information to those employees who need to know that Personal Information to provide products or services to you. Affiliates and Non-Affiliated Third Parties with whom we share Personal Information are bound by the same confidentiality and privacy rules that apply to us. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard your Personal Information.
electronic messaging policy
We offer a mobile messaging program. By providing your email address and/or phone number to us, you authorize us, our Affiliates, or Third-Party Providers acting on our behalf to communicate with you via email to your provided email address(es) or via calls or text messages to the telephone number(s) you provide. Such communications may include customer service surveys, information regarding your policy, and/or information related to a claim. You may also receive communications generated by automatic telephone dialing systems and/or text messaging systems that will deliver prerecorded messages sent by or on behalf of Rural, our Affiliates, or Third-Party Providers acting on our behalf. Messaging frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
If you do not wish to receive emails from us, please contact our customer service department at 877-219-9550 or via email at customerservice@ruralins.com. To opt out of receiving text messages from Rural, you can reply “STOP” from any mobile device receiving the messages.
For purposes of clarity, text messages between you and Third-Party Providers are transactional text messages, not promotional text messages. You acknowledge that opting out of receiving any communication may impact your use of our services. Notwithstanding the foregoing, if we suspect fraud or unlawful activity on your Account, Rural may contact you using any of the contact information you provided in connection with your Account, including via mail, email, text, or voice message.
