Rural Mutual earns 10th Best Places to Work recognition

Rural Mutual Insurance Company has been named a Best Place to Work by Madison Magazine for the 10th time, marking a significant milestone that reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to workplace culture and employee engagement.

The annual recognition is based entirely on employee feedback. In late 2025, Rural Mutual was voluntarily nominated by an employee to participate in the Best Places to Work survey. Once nominated, Madison Magazine distributed a confidential survey to employees from Dane and bordering counties to assess workplace culture and morale, with questions focusing on benefits, satisfaction and growth opportunities, leadership, teamwork, and trust.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes directly from our employees,” said Dan Merk, executive vice president and CEO of Rural Mutual. “Being named a Best Place to Work for the 10th time is a testament to the people who show up every day, support one another, and help create a workplace where individuals can be their very best.”

Based on the survey results, Madison Magazine recognized the top 23 businesses across three size categories: small (10–50 employees), medium (51–100 employees), and large (101+ employees). With more than 200 employees, Rural Mutual earned a top-five ranking in the large company category, reinforcing the strength and consistency of its workplace culture.
